St. Petersburg, FL – Exactly four weeks after State Rep. Ben Diamond (@BenDiamondFL) of St. Petersburg kicked off his campaign for Congress in District 13, he already has raised more than a quarter of a million dollars.
Most of the total has been contributed by Pinellas County residents. For example, a 94-year-old Largo retiree sent $25 to the Democrat’s congressional campaign. Living on a limited income, the man wrote Diamond and explained why he supports him to succeed U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist in District 13, which includes St. Petersburg, Clearwater and most of Pinellas County:
“One year ago, I visited with (you) about the massive weeds that have caused a pollution ‘block’ in our County Lakes. You sat up and listened to what I had to say. I want you to know I appreciated your concern. You have my vote, and I will try to influence others. I would be willing to speak at any rally if it would help.”
Diamond, a Pinellas County native, pledges to seek common sense solutions in Congress to the challenges he has focused on in the Florida Legislature. Those include climate change and the environment, criminal justice reforms to ensure everyone is treated equally regardless of race or ethnicity, and health care that is accessible and affordable.
Diamond, 42, is a lawyer who served as general counsel to former Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2016 and has been re-elected twice. He and his wife, Christina, live in St. Petersburg with their three children.
