Ben Diamond announces run for Congress

St. Petersburg, FL – State Representative Ben Diamond (@BenDiamondFL) of St. Petersburg announced today he is running for Congress in District 13, the U.S. House seat being vacated by Charlie Crist.

“When I look into the faces of young children like mine, I think about their future – and what the future holds for them, for our community, for Florida and for the nation,” Diamond said. “I’m running for Congress to help ensure our democracy remains strong and that all of our children have an opportunity to live the American Dream.’’

Diamond, a Pinellas County native, pledges to seek common sense solutions in Congress to the challenges he has focused on in the Florida Legislature. Those include climate change and the environment, criminal justice reforms to ensure everyone is treated equally regardless of race or ethnicity, and health care that is accessible and affordable.

Diamond, 42, is a lawyer who served as general counsel to former Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2016 and has been re-elected twice. He and his wife, Christina, live in St. Petersburg with their three children.

The race for Congressional District 13 in 2022 is expected to be among the most competitive in the nation. The district covers most of Pinellas County, including St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Seminole, Largo, most of Clearwater and the beaches.

Joining Diamond as he announced his campaign at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg today were the Rev. Watson Haynes, Pinellas County Commissioner Pat Gerard, County Commissioner Janet C. Long, St. Petersburg City Council Member Gina Driscoll, City Council Member Amy Foster, City Council Member Brandi Gabbard, Gulfport City Council Member Michael Fridovich, Pinellas County School Board Member Nicole Carr and several other community leaders.
