St. Petersburg, FL – Since announcing his campaign on May 10th for Congress in District 13, state Representative Ben Diamond has raised nearly $700,000. That includes more than $300,000 in the third quarter, which just closed last week.
“I am encouraged and humbled by the support and reception our campaign is receiving,” said Diamond. “I think this is a reflection of our deep roots in the community, and it indicates that the issues I have worked most closely on are the ones voters care most deeply about. Those issues include protecting the environment, advocating for affordable health care and ensuring equal rights for all regardless of gender, race or ethnicity. Those are the priorities I will continue to emphasize in Washington.’’
Nearly half of the contributors during this recent fundraising quarter were first-time donors to Diamond. Roughly 50 percent of the donors also gave $100 or less. In fact, since Diamond launched his campaign on May 10th, he has received more than 1,000 grassroots donations of $100 or less.
As of Oct. 1, Diamond has more than a half-million dollars of cash on hand.
In addition to Diamond’s impressive fundraising numbers, he is also continuing to rack up significant endorsements. Most recently former Congressman Jim Davis, former Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, and former State Representative Sean Shaw joined Pinellas County Commissioners Janet C. Long and Pat Gerard; St. Petersburg City Council members Amy Foster, Gina Driscoll and Brandi Gabbard; Pinellas County School Board member Nicole Carr, Indian Rocks Beach Mayor Cookie Kennedy, Gulfport Mayor Sam Henderson, St. Pete Beach Mayor Al Johnson, Safety Harbor Mayor Joe Ayoub, Largo City Commissioner Jamie Robinson, Gulfport City Council member Michael Fridovich and Pinellas Park City Council member Patti Reed in lending their support to Diamond.
Diamond, a Pinellas County native, pledges to seek common sense solutions in Congress to the challenges he has focused on in the Florida Legislature. Those include climate change and the environment, criminal justice reforms to ensure everyone is treated equally regardless of race or ethnicity, and health care that is accessible and affordable.
Diamond, 42, is a lawyer who served as general counsel to former Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2016 and has been re-elected twice. He and his wife, Christina, live in St. Petersburg with their three children.
